Gala RAMMYS 2009

One of the most distinctive and important events in this region is undoubtedly the Gala of the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, better known as RAMMYS. The Gala is organized annually by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW). ProChile’s Commercial Office in Washington D.C., participated in the event in which, around 1,600 people attended the event, whom represented the hospitality sector in the region, such as chefs, sommeliers, restaurant owners, distributors, importers, trade press, and representatives of specialized magazines, among others. Honorable guests, Ambassador of Chile in Washington DC, Mr José Goñi and the secretary general of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, were mentioned and thanked for their presence at the beginning of dinner.

During the gala, awards were given by category to the best chef, restaurant, sommelier, among others, of the year 2009. This year, Ambassador Goñi was asked to hand out the award for best restaurant of the year 2009, along with the editor of the "Bon Apettit" magazine, Barbara Fairchild. ProChile was nominated for best sponsor of the year, but unfortunately was not selected as the winner.

Chile, was not only present through the participation of vineyards, Cousino-Macul (Riesling) and Luis Felipe Edwards (Sauvignon Blanc and Carmenere), who were mentioned during the dinner on several occasions, but also with “Merquén” (Etnia) Avocado Oil (Lamay and San Pietro) and Olive Oil (Olisur). These products were used to prepare each dish for the Gala Dinner. In each table, there were available 2 types of olive oils and a small pot with “merquén” so that people could enjoy the meal while they sampled the Chilean products. The companies were listed in the event program. At the end of the event, a video of Chile was shown on the main screens of the event.
