Chile, with its bounty of fresh produce, artisan food products and top wines, is poised to become a leader in the burgeoning organic food market. With its natural fertile soil and Andes mountain spring water, Chile is particularly well suited for organic agricultural production. The unique terrain (mountains to the east, desert to the north, ocean to the west) creates a natural barrier that helps naturally protect crops from pests and disease and keeps the soil free from chemical overuse. Already, dozens of organic Chielan products ares exported to the US, including fruit, vegetables, wine, honey, oils, grains and specialty food products.

Like the USDA cerfitication process, organic certification in Chile is only granted under the strictest guidelines. Since the early 1990's, Chile's organic trade organization, the CCO (Certificadora Chile Organico) has issued local certiciations, along with select foreign certification agencies. In 2006, the program was expanded to include more rigorous guidelines. These have already been fully implemented into Chilean organic growing practices, and government sponsored systems are in place offering farmers continuing education and support.

The Fresh Ideas Market Place takes place under the umbrella of the Natural Products Expo West Show. You will be able to taste organic products from Chile. Visit us at tables 154 to 157 from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm and experience some of the best organic products from Chile.
